glad you’re here
Throughout my life there are so many moments I can recall in my mind's eyes, where I was sitting on the couch with my family, cuddled in together as we slowly flipped through our family photo album. Different seasons of life that were forever preserved in plastic covered photo albums. We all know what they look like cause most of our parents had them.
Growing up, I constantly pulled out the box that had photo albums along with endless loose pictures. I can even tell you that most of the time, looking back through the years of photos would bring me to tears. (Yes I was an emotional kid!) The years of my upbringing are so vivid in my mind because of all the moments that were captured by my mom. Like the time we all hopped in a Greyhound bus and moved to Texas, or photos of her when she was younger and lived in Mexico with her family.
I didn’t know it then, but I'd go on to spend my life capturing those same kinds of sacred moments for others. I’d spend my life paying attention to the magic that is weaved throughout our stories. I don’t remember the first time I picked up a camera, but I know I’ve loved it from a very young age. From borrowing my mom’s digital camera, to a Senior Project, it has never lost its magic to me. Over the years I have captured a wide range of sessions. Though Weddings are one of the bigger events that I really enjoy, I also love the wide range of opportunities that photography creates. Throughout the years I’ve had people ask me what my favorite type of sessions are, and my answer has always been, “Anything involving people.” I truly love the stories I get to be a part of. It is really special getting to be a part of so many walks of life.
As I’ve navigated through different types of sessions, I have found myself preferring a slower approach, letting the stress of getting the perfect photo fade away, paying attention to the light that is woven through the trees, how the colors around us are playing together and always looking for the moments of human connection. A friend of mine once told me that she tries to capture moments “the way it felt”, and that has never left me. I live for the honest moments in our everyday lives. No details of our story are too unpolished, human, or messy that don’t deserve to be told. Life is worth remembering.
While one of my greatest joys is telling your story with the photos, the greater dream that pulls me behind the camera is the idea that one day, you’ll find yourself sitting beside a loved one, flipping through your own photo album filled with the sacred moments of your story, along with the ordinary everyday moments. And together, you’ll remember all the moments the light found you.
